Hiking Near RedRock RV Park

Whether you are looking for a short stroll or an extended backpacking trip, RedRock RV Park has the hiking experience for you. Here are 9 amazing hikes for you to try while you stay.

Please Stay on the Trails and Don’t Litter

Hiking in this region can be a wonderful experience because of the scenic beauty. Remember, this is the wilderness and bear country. There are some precautions you should take for your own safety and the safety of others.

  • Bring water
  • Wear layers of clothes
  • Wear hiking boots or other appropriate shows
  • Bring bear spray and make noise so the bears know you are coming
  • Let someone know where you are going

Forest Walk Trail

Forest Walk Trail is perfect for the novice hikers – and it starts right from RedRock RV Park. These trails are mostly level with wide paths. Enjoy the views and the quiet.

Please be bear aware.

Directions:
  • Head west on Red Rock Road toward Forest Road 463.
  • Turn left onto Forest Road 463.
  • Slight right to stay on Forest Road 463.

Henry’s Lake Southside Walk

Take a walk around Henry’s Lake and enjoy views of the lake and Black Mountain. Enjoy the view from the bird observatory platform and see how many species of bird you can see. There are white pelicans, great blue heron, swans, ducks, bald eagles and more! Behind you are views of Sawtelle peak and the eastern Centennial Mountains.

Directions:
  • Leave RedRock RV Park through the front gate and turn right.
  • Turn right on the first dirt road and follow it 1 mile.

Bootjack Hill Hike

Enjoy a walk down the road and up to the top of the Bootjack Hill to see a new perspective of Henry’s Lake. This is an easy, 4.6 mile round trip hike. It is easy and flat for about 1.8 miles with a climb at the end to the top of the hill.

Directions:
  • Head east on Red Rock Road towards Henry’s Store Drive/Webster subdivision.
  • Turn left.

Rock Creek Basin (Sawtelle Peak)

This hike is 7.8 miles round trip and dog friendly (on leash). You need to drive to the Rock Creek Basin trailhead which is about 18 miles from RedRock RV Park. The last 11 miles are a wide gravel road. Check with the office at RedRock to confirm when the road is open.

Directions:
  • Head east on Red Rock Road towards US20.
  • Turn right on US20.
  • Turn right onto Sawtelle Peak Road.
  • Follow Sawtelle Peak Road 11 miles to near the top.

Mile Creek Trail – Montana

This hike is a 8.2 mile round trip to the top of the Continental Divide. The first 3 miles are a gentle climb up a steep valley paralleling Mile Creek. Then you climb almost 2,000 feet to the top. For a gentle walk, go the first 2 miles. Please be bear aware.

Directions:
  • Head west on Red Rock Road out of RedRock RV Park. Red Rock Road deadends and turns right to become Henry’s Lake Road.
  • Turn left onto ID87 N.
  • Continue onto MT87 N.
  • Turn right onto Mile Creek Road.

Sheep Creek Trail – Montana

Sheep Creek Trail is a round trip hike of almost 10 miles. This trail runs along Sheep Creek and rises 2,575 feet to Sheep Lake – an elevation of 9,074 feet. You don’t have to go the whole day to enjoy the forest, creek, and wildflowers. There is a 19 mile drive to the trailhead from RedRock.

Directions:
  • Head west on Red Rock Road out of RedRock RV Park. Red Rock Road deadends and turns right to become Henry’s Lake Road.
  • Turn left onto ID87 N.
  • Continue onto MT87 N.
  • Turn right onto Sheep Creek Road.

Coffee Pot Rapids Hiking Trail

This quiet trail begins at the Coffee Pot Rapid Forest Service Campground and takes you along the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River to the Coffee Pot Rapids. The beginning is only about 14 miles from RedRock River Resort.

Directions:
  • Head east on Red Rock Road towards US20.
  • Turn right onto US20.
  • Continue straight over the Snake River bridge.
  • Turn right on Forest Road 311 and proceed to the Coffee Pot Campgrounds.
  • Park in the fisherman parking spots outside the campground.

Sheep Falls Trail

Sheep Fall Trail is a nice, short hike with beautiful views of the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River at its end. While the hike is short – 1.5 miles round trip – you need to drive to the south side of Island Park to access the trailhead.

Directions:
  • Head east on Red Rock Road towards US20.
  • Turn right onto US20 and travel south for 33 miles.
  • Turn left on Sheep Falls Road and travel for 2.4 miles.
  • Turn left into the parking area.

Lower Mesa Falls Trail

Lower Mesa Falls Trail is a nice hike on your trip to Mesa Falls. This isn’t really a hike but a nice walk to an observation platform at Mesa Falls. When you’ve taken in the sights, take the trail to the Lower Falls overlook. This is a short trip – 2 miles round trip – through the forest and wildflowers. Be prepared for bugs though.

Directions:
  • Head east on Red Rock Road towards US20.
  • Turn right onto US20.
  • Turn left onto Mesa Falls Scenic Byway.
  • Turn right onto Forest Road 348 to the parking lot.
